Text Box: “Line And Movement”

Text Box: I’ve always been fascinated with grey — or white  — horses.   This is a study on freedom and flow in the male animal.  But you know what happens when a white horse moves to Red Rock Country?  White is indeed full spectrum!  Acrylic on board.  Framed size is 17” x 14”.  Image size is 12” x 9”.  $200.

Text Box: “Tall Grass”

Text Box: Spots!  Each baby is so unique!  I love the paint and pinto patterns and get excited each time one’s born with those glorious spots.   Here, Mom teaches baby the canter — up and down, back and forth, until she gets it right.  Acrylic on board.  Framed size is 12” x 10”.  Image size is 7” x 5”.  $130.

Text Box: “The Three Sisters”

Text Box: Could anything be more beautiful than 3 porcelain Arabian beauties?  Their genes are so ancient that they look like they could all be stamped out of the same mold.  The beduins treasure the female bloodlines and this consistancy is the reason why.  Acrylic on board.   Framed size is just shy of 15” x 13”.      Image size is 9” x 7”.  $175.

Text Box: “Snow!”

Text Box: Here in Montana the snow comes early and stays late.  Sometimes, babies just miss the last snowfall in the Spring when they’re born!  But when fall comes around, they learn to frolic fast.  Acrylic on illustration board. Image size is 7” x 5”.  Framed size is  approx. 11” x 9 1/2”  .  $125.

Text Box: “Down To Water At Dusk”

Text Box: I love it when a herd moves as one.  It’s always the mares that dance in unison to the unspoken word.  Here’s a band of all red sisters,  moving to the music of the rhythm of time and thirst.  Acrylic on stretched canvas.  Framed size is approx 19” x 16”.  Image size is 12” x 9”.  $265.

Text Box: “Under The Live Oak”

Text Box: Oh my god, who’s THAT!?  Foals discover there’s a world beyond Mom quite early —when there’s a mirror image to startle them into reality.  Otherwise, the babies would be hanging behind Momma’s apron strings for awhile yet   Acrylic on canvas.  Framed size is almost 18” by 15”.  Image size is 12” x 9”.   $295.

Text Box: “Over The Fence”

Text Box: Fences do make good neighbors.   If these 2 stallions were in the same field, they’d just have to kill each other.  It must be a guy  thing.  That said, I’m awfully happy to have a male around the ranch...Acrylic on stretched canvas.  Framed size is almost 18” x 15”. Image size is 12” x 9”.   $225.

Text Box: “The Nap”

Text Box: Another painting of Gai Pariss.  This is so typical of her.  She doesn’t want to miss anything, so she won’t fall fast asleep — but she’s so tired.  “Perhaps if I just rest my nose on the grass, I can sleep and watch too….”  Mixed media on  board. Under glass.  Image size 12” x 6”.  Framed size: 22 1/4” x 16 1/4”.  $295.

Text Box: “The Image And Likeness”

Text Box: Born dark, the filly will probably be the spitting image of her Mom when she lightens with age.  Oh, don’t you just hope she inherits that sweet disposition as well?  If she sticks this close, how could she not?  Ooooh, look at those whiskers!  Acrylic on board.  Image size 12” x 9”.  Framed size: 17” x 14”.  $275.

Text Box: “The Mimic”

Text Box: This is my favorite foal stage!  Baby knows that mom spends most of her day eating grass but his legs are SO long!  A little painting with a lot of heart.  A sorrel frame overo baby who’s a real looker...Opaque water color on illustration board.  Under glass. Framed size is 10” x 9”.  Image size is 5” x 4”.  $85.

Text Box: “Steppin’ Out With Sierra”

Text Box: From the 2004 “Cowgirl Moments” series, comes an image of one of my riding buddies with her big soft, paint gelding, Sierra.  Well mannered and sweet, he’s the kind of mount you expect a good hand like Jeanne to ride.  They’ve both “been there and done all of that” many times over.  Gouache and watercolor on board.  Under glass.  10” x 8” image size.  Framed size is 15 1/4” x  13 1/4”.  $250.

Text Box: “Sue and Q”

Text Box: Another one of my riding buddies — a true cowgirl that makes a living riding horses.  Susan and her husband are outfitters, offering trail rides in the back country, riding lessons and other horsey stuff.  “Q” is a client’s horse that she took out to train that day.  Mixed media on board.  Under glass.  Image size is 10” x 8”.  Framed size is 14 1/4” x 12 1/4”.  $215.

Text Box: “Come Here, Big Boy!”

Text Box: Breaking camp the last day in the Bob Marshall Wilderness where we went in the East side and out the West.  The 7 mules took turns getting loaded while Carrie  held them.  17 hand Mikey was always last because he didn’t have much patience — probably because he thinks he’s human too.  Mixed media on board. Under glass.  Image size 10”x 8”.  Framed size is 14 1/4” x 12 1/4”.  $235.

Text Box: “Go For It”

Text Box: Kathy T & her horse, John,  fording the big ditch up Lost Horse Creek, one of my favorite places to ride in Western Montana.  Kathy and her husband raise and race thoroughbreds.  You can tell she grew up with horses and spends most of her free time enjoying them.  Acrylic on board.  Image is 7” x 5”.  Framed size is 10 1/4” x 8 1/4”.  $130.

Text Box: “Thirsty”

Text Box: Audrey and her big red Quarter horse mare, Honey, getting ready to cross the big ditch.  Every cowgirl needs to pay attention to watering their critter when they can, particularly when you know you’ll be in dry country all day.  Acrylic on board.  Image is 7” x 5”.  Framed sized is 10 1/4” x 8 1/4”.  $135.

Text Box: “The Crossing”

Text Box: Some of my regular riding goombas here.  Peg on her Morgan mare, Holly, in the lead and Linda on Rocky the Missouri Foxtrotter.   Peg rode endurance for years.  You can see it in her body language and seat.  Linda loves those go-fast horses.  Image is 7” x 5” acrylic on board.  Framed size is 10 1/4” x 8 1/4”.  $135.

Text Box: “The Shadow”

Text Box: All moms have lessons to teach.  This mare takes her job seriously.  Baby needs to learn to run from predators.  Acrylic on illustration board.  Framed size is just shy of 13”  x 11” .  Image size is 7” x 5”.   $135.

Text Box: Small Paintings

Text Box: The thunder of the herd’s hooves in the far field, the whinny of a foal in the paddock answered by mom’s soft nicker, the sigh when the old “girlfriend” mares get tied to the fence at lunch time, the nuzzle of appreciation from my favorite equine companions.   These are the sounds and emotions I feel and paint.  These small paintings are  gem-like originals with incredible detail and color intensity.   They speak of horses as humans, with feelings and emotions like you and me — because they are.  Paintings are acrylic, gouache, water color or mixed media.  Size and price is noted next to each painting.  Each is an original, never a  reproduction.   Cost does not include packaging, shipping or insurance.   Please call or email for quotes.  Click on any image to see a larger version.

Text Box: The charming  moment when a foal first becomes aware  of his surroundings.  Could that be my “other” mom coming to visit me?   Another departure for me.  Loose and free and impressionistic.  Acrylic on illustration board.  Framed size is 11” wide by 9 1/2” deep.   $125.

Text Box: “The Lesson”

Text Box: “The Image And Likeness”

Text Box: “The Sigh”

Text Box: Love’s labor gained!  Mom is exhausted, but not so much that she can’t caress her newborn son, who’s legs are tangled in her own.  There they are, sweaty and tired and pleased with themselves at last.  Acrylic on illustration board. Framed size: 10” x 8” .  Image size 7” x 5”.   $145.

Text Box: Email me

Text Box: This is my friend, Linda, riding the Missouri Foxtrotter, Rocky.  Sadly, they lost him to liver failure  a few days after this ride.  Rocky was a no nonsense, go anywhere kind of horse. And a great pal.  He’s one of those critters who’s sorely missed.  Image is 10” x 8”.  Framed size is about 13” x 11”.  $235.

Text Box: “Rocky”

Text Box: Tammi on Beauty, the Tennessee Walker, and me behind on Smokey, a Missouri Foxtrotter.  A long trail day in Spring time, broken up by good humor and a good laugh.  Everyone should be this lucky!  Acrylic on board.  Image size is 7” x 5”.   Framed size is 11 1/2” x 9 1/2”.  $145.

Text Box: “Rest Stop”

NEW! Text Box: “Experience”

Text Box: “The Visit”

“The Crossing”

Text Box: “The Crossing”

Text Box: This is Mildred, 88 years young, on her birthday this Spring!  She’s leading Zar, a 29 year old Arabian, who came to Montana via Alaska.  Mildred and Zar are old friends, who wanted to celebrate her special day with a ride...You can see the years of horsemanship in the way she handles him — and her sense of humor in her purple gloves and hat!  Image size is 10” x 8”.  Framed size is about 13” x 11”.  $225.

Text Box: Here’s my niece, Elizabeth, with my foxtrotter mare, Ciera, and her filly, Moxie.    Mare and baby were loving the attention, and the niece was loving the horses, Montana and the peace and quiet it offers.  Passing though becomes an annual pilgrimage….Image is 10” x 8”.  Framed size is about 13” x 11”.  $250.
